Menno Onnes

Menno Onnes and his wife Nienke Bottema travel to the Afsluitdijk every week. And it's always worth it. ''All kinds of things wash up,'' says Menno. Mostly plastic. And that doesn't decompose easily so sometimes it floats around in the water for years if it's not cleaned up. When the tide comes in the washed up plastic disappears back out to sea. ''That's no good. We live in such a beautiful world and then we destroy it,'' says Menno.

The hunt for washed up plastic

In the battle against waste the pair are determined to create change. To make the world just that little bit cleaner and more beautiful. Learn more about their cleaning up campaign in this video.

Want to help out? Of course you can. There is more than enough plastic that needs to be picked up along the Afsluitdijk, Wadden Sea or other places along the water. So do your bit. Even if it's on a very small-scale. Grab a big bag, a grabber and get picking. Alone, with a friend or a whole group. Make a day trip of it. A fun and sustainable day out!

This should have been at IKEA but instead it's at the bottom of the sea.
