Lauwersoog
The mudflat walk from the dike to Engelsmanplaat and back.
Park the car in the parking lot on the Wierumerwei between the villages of Nes and Wierum. From the parking lot we walk directly onto the dike from where we can see the islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog with the uninhabited Engelsmanplaat in the tidal inlet in between. We first walk through not too difficult mudflats past the wreck of Wierum and the dikes. After about half an hour we wade through the channel and walk onto the Engelsmanplaat towards the Cape and the bird watcher's house 'De Kalkman'. We then walk via a high sand ridge to an oyster bed and via the shipping channel back to the dike. A varied and photogenic trip of about 4 hours. To emphasize the exclusivity of this tour, it is only run in small groups.
