The Canadians had to fight hard battles to liberate all of Groningen. After liberating the city of Groningen it took more than two weeks before the entire province was liberated. ‘Delfzijl Pocket’ was the last part of the province that was still in German hands. The Canadians had to get past Festung Emden first before they could get to Delfzijl Pocket. The Germans were not about to give up.
