Hiking and cycling through the National Park
Walking in nature gives you a great sense of freedom and makes you happy. In the Natuurmonumenten route app (NatuurRoutes), you can download routes and explore the nature of Schiermonnikoog National Park on your own. In spring, the migratory bird route and the route through the dunes and beach are highly recommended. For families with young children, there is also a family route between the OERRR play area and the Berkenplas.

In the National Park on Schiermonnikoog, you can still find many traces of World War II. Bunkers from the Atlantic Wall and the war cemetery Vredenhof remind us of the dark chapters in our history. Cees Soepboer has been a ranger on Schiermonnikoog for 42 years. In addition to his work with Natuurmonumenten, Cees also manages the Bunkermuseum Schlei. With a special Fatbike, you can reach places that a regular bike can't! Creative adventurer Erwin Zantinga will take you on a sporty tour through the expansive nature of the island. The route of the tour is fully coordinated with the rangers of Natuurmonumenten to ensure that the tour has no negative impact on the environment. You will bike along sandy paths through dunes and salt marshes, and of course, along the tide line on the vast beach of Schiermonnikoog. Along the way, Erwin shares exciting stories about his adventures on the island, as well as insights into the nature and culture of Schiermonnikoog.
Trailrun
Trail running is off-road running through nature, navigating narrow paths and natural obstacles such as tree trunks, swales, and rocks. More and more runners are seeking these challenges to experience nature more closely, enjoy the tranquility, and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings. With its endless beaches, drifting dunes, and salt marshes, Schiermonnikoog is the perfect place for trail running. A 20 km route has been set out by the ranger for this purpose. On Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13, 2021, the Devil’s Trail trail running event will take place on Schiermonnikoog.

The activities beach
For the active enthusiasts, there is also the activities beach where you can enjoy flying kites, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, bodyboarding, and kite surfing. The activities beach, also known as beach post 3, is located at the end of Badweg. There, you will find two businesses where you can rent or purchase equipment or join a lesson: Reactief Buitensport and By Chris op Schier.
