De Westereen
If you want to see lapwings, black-tailed godwits, common snipe and redshank, pull on your boots and head over to the Zwagermieden nature reserve!
The Zwagermieden nature reserve is bordered by two waterways at right angles: the Petsloot canal and the Kollumerzwaagstervaart canal, and two roads: Easterbroeksterwei and Miedwei.
This wetland area is home to a large number of birds. In the southern part of the reserve there are also patches of forest. The landscape in the northern part of the reserve is more open with peat and clay soils and reed beds. The stream valley of the Oude Zwemmer canal once ran through this area.
Birds you are likely to see here include lapwings, black-tailed godwits, common snipe and redshanks!
