Experience that island feeling at the mainland! At the farthest tip of The Netherlands is the tourist village of Pieterburen, where walking the mudflats once originated. In addition, the well-known Pieterburen Zeehondencentrum (seal sanctuary) is located in the village and it is an easy operating base for a visit to the islands of Schiermonnikoog and Borkum. The comfortable Hotel Waddenweelde is the official starting point of the Pieterpad. Walks across the mudflats are held on a daily basis and the hotel has various facilities, such as two à la carte restaurants (one of which is located in Lauwersoog, with a wonderful view of the Wadden Sea and Lauwersmeer lake), a grand café and a pizzeria. If you are looking for some relaxation during your stay, go to the Waddenwellness bathhouse with a swimming pool and a sauna; pure indulgence after a brisk walk across the mudflats. And the children are sure to jump in the air for joy in the playground of no less than 2500 m² or a ride on the kart track!
