Tresoar is the home of Friesland’s history. Its collections include countless newspapers and magazines published in Friesland, hundreds of thousands of books – including volumes from Erasmus’s library – tens of thousands of photographs, films and audio recordings, court records, notarial deeds, the Blaeu Atlas, manuscripts and letters by famous Frisians, the archives of Douwe Egberts and the Eleven Cities Association, CDs ranging from Frisian punk to classical music, the painstakingly handwritten Attic Nights dating from AD 836, the oldest and most recent (Frisian) literature, academic publications, digital files and Friesland’s civil registration records, which may even contain information about your Frisian ancestors. And much more besides!
Our building is buzzing with activities for all ages, including concerts, lectures, exhibitions, educational projects and children’s lectures. It’s also an ideal place for researchers, genealogists, students and school pupils to work quietly, either independently or together. Everyone is welcome to simply walk in.
In short, Tresoar is the place to discover, explore and share Friesland’s history and heritage – both in person and online.
