ISLAND OF STARS
Terschelling is one of the darkest areas in Europe. When your eyes get used to the dark, the starry sky seems almost touchable. On clear nights, you can feel the grandeur of planet Earth in the universe, as you perceive the Milky Way and constellations come to life. In addition, the beautiful Northern Lights can be seen here with the naked eye when conditions are right. Terschelling cherishes the darkness as one of the natural resources of the Wadden area. As a result, De Boschplaat Nature Reserve, where there are no buildings, is recognised as an international Dark Sky Park. Our guides are happy to take you on an outing to drink in the beauty of darkness. At the VVV Tourist Information you can choose from different outings. There are narrative walks during dusk and in the evenings, or go on a covered wagon excursion with an astronomer during the Night of the Night. On a regular basis we hold night excursions and other special packages during the new moon, with the Dutch Forestry Commission. So, be sure to get a star map and explore the special Terschelling night life.
