The Wadden Sea World Heritage Center (WEC) is an initiative of and builds on Seal Center Pieterburen and will be the new Workshop of the Wadden. The WEC in Lauwersoog will be the place to experience the Wadden area. Here the forces of curious visitors, researchers, seal caretakers, sustainable fishermen, residents and entrepreneurs are combined. Together, we tell the story of the Wadden Sea region here in order to actively contribute together to a sustainable future for this area and to give an impulse to the economy in the region. Creating awareness of the vulnerability of the Wadden Sea region and the need to search for a new balance between nature and people are key. The expected opening to the public is in the spring of 2025.
